7/17/2015 Orange, California - This Van was my hobby project from 1972 till 1977. I immigrated in 1957 from Switzerland as a Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics Engineer (3 engineering degrees), and later an MBA degree from Pepperdine University - LA.
I worked for General Motors in 1958-60 on GM Car Telephones and at Hughes Aircraft Company 1960 - 1989 as Senior Scientist on Air Defense Systems.
I made the following changes to a newly bought 1 ton Chevy Van.
Wheelbase stretch by 24 inches,
Basic Van Chassis enlargements:
1.) In between Axle Chassis enlargement= 24 inches (behind the driver door frame),
2.) 7.5 inches wider on each side of the Van to make it 15 inches wider,
3.) 45 inches longer behind the rear wheels ( Overhang)
4.) 27 inches higher ( inserted at the window levels)
5.) 12 inch Insert to make the roof top 12 inches longer.
6. All the framing enlargements were made in steel.
All the additional steel side panels were obtained from Van Conversion Manufacturer who cut off the panels on their van conversions and replaced them with wooden frames.
Total Mileage on Van only about only 23,000 miles.
Total length of Van is 22 1/2 feet, with a center bathroom.
Bath Room has a Sink, Mirror, Toilet and Shower
Opposite the Bathroom is the refrigerator and clothes cabinet
Front Passenger Bench (4 people) converts to a double bed.
Kitchen has a steel sink and Gas Range with Vent Hood.
Above the two front seats is a fold up bed for a child. The paint has somewhat faded in the sun and probably needs a new paint job. Also a little attention is needed on ABC waterline connections.
Sincerely,
Marcel Busslinger
