Art Garfunkle - NYC
by Elvi Kaukinen

During my class trip to NYC back in 1968, we all went to see the Statue of Liberty via the ferry. As we were gathering together waiting to board the ferry to leave, standing in front of Pat ( my BFF) and I was this tall, skinny man, much taller than myself, I'm 5'11" tall. He had that dirty blond afro, sort of a hook nose, and was wearing a Khaki trenchcoat. Unmistakeably he was Art Garfunkle. I elbowed Pat and whispered, "Look, look, Art Garfunkle." Fortunately, he didn't hear me and turn around. So, I guess Art had never before visited the Statue of Liberty even though he lived in the city.
