Billy Crystal - Leningrad, Soviet Union

In 1989, I was on a trip to the Soviet Union with a small group of educators from North Carolina. We were there on a cross-cultural visit with teachers and schools in the then USSR. When we arrived at our hotel in Leningrad, we ran into a leather-jacketed Billy Crystal in the lobby! He wasn't actually there to welcome us, but he kindly posed for photos with us, happy to find someone with whom to speak English. He seemed as surprised as we were to see a fellow American and even cracked a few jokes with us to let us know he was truly the comedian we knew and loved!
