Banana Split Information

Banana Splits are typically served up in a long dish called a boat. They are usually served with chocolate, vanilla and strawberry ice cream. Toppings abound including traditional strawberries over the strawberry ice cream, chocolate over the chocolate ice cream and pineapple over the vanilla ice cream. It's topped off with nuts, whipped cream & maraschino cherries.

• Banana splits were invented by David Evans Strickler, a 23-year-old apprentice pharmacist.

• The dessert initially cost a mere ten cents, which was double the price of other sundaes.

• There is a "Split" festival each year in the town of Wilmington, Ohio.
