Kettle popcorn is usually prepared outside in professional equipment including an iron kettle popper. It is sweetened with sugar or honey and then salt is added. You can smell it popping from quite a distance from its origination at an event. It is also fun to watch the process during the making. Microwave kettle popcorn is also sold at grocery stores for preparation at home.
