All while this is going on, there is a professional food court, free family music entertainment, and other diversions for the children located in Pawtuxet Park.

Newport Music Festival

Description: The Newport Music Festival continues the tradition of presenting unique chamber music programs, American debuts, world-class artists and special events in the Gilded Age “summer cottages” of Newport, Rhode Island. Much research goes into selecting works from 19th century chamber music, vocal repertoire and the Romantic-era piano literature, to create one of the most extraordinary festivals in the world. In its thirty-nine year history, the Newport Music Festival has become celebrated for presenting over one hundred twenty artists and ensembles in their American debuts.

Newport Folk Festival
Newport, Rhode Island - August
Description: The Newport Folk Festival is an American institution and remains one of the longest running music gatherings in the country. Early on in the 60’s it defined the folk boom and became the central event for the folk world. It was where Joan Baez became a star and Bob Dylan went electric in one of the most infamous gigs in music history. A combination indoor and outdoor event, the festival takes over the entire resort town of Newport, Rhode Island for three days in early August. The festival maintains its success, integrity and popularity by bringing contemporary, often chart-topping performers together with other extraordinary musicians carrying forward the tradition of folk music. In addition there are food vendors and an arts and craft display.

Newport Jazz Festival
Newport, Rhode Island - August
Description: Each year for one summer weekend in August at the Newport Jazz Festival, thousands of jazz lovers arrive in Newport to hear legendary and new names in jazz music. Most of the performances are held at the Fort Adams State Park with acts playing on Saturday and Sunday. Performances are also held at the Jane Pickens Theater and the Newport Casino at the International Tennis Hall of Fame. Vendor and food pavilions give visitors plenty of listening, eating and shopping options.

Rhythm and Roots Festival

To most people Labor Day weekend signals that the summer is over, but to quite a few people in New England, it means that it’s time for an annual Mardi Gras style celebration, where thousands of people from all over the United States gather in Rhode Island every year to listen to a wide spectrum of roots music, dance to a variety of rhythms, and savor gourmet food and drink in a truly festive setting with four stages of music. The Mohegan Sun Main Stage features a wide variety of musical styles such as Zydeco, Cajun, blues, New Orleans R&B, swing, Americana, folk and roots music. In addition to all the great entertainment, Rhythm & Roots is renowned for bringing in some of the best food vendors to be found at any festival in the country.

Newport Irish Festival
Newport, Rhode Island - August
Descritpion: The Newport Irish Festival is a three day celebration that features five stages of national and international entertainment, an Irish marketplace, a dance hall, and a children's activity area! Join us Labor Day weekend for this three day Irish Celebration in historic downtown Newport! Lively step dances and haunting Celtic tunes drift through the harbor. The festival features activities, including Irish fiddlers and foot stomping and twirling at the authentic Shamrock Dance Hall and Irish corned beef and cabbage at The Oyster Garden. You can also enjoy a frothing mug of beer to tote along the five stages and over 100 exhibitors and entertainers. This is one of the largest U.S. Irish Festivals.
