4/10/2013 (McAlester, Oklahoma) - LOOKING FOR OLD WEST, NATIVE AMERICAN AND COUNTRY STYLE VENDORS! The 17th Annual Wild West Festival in historic Old Town! Movie lovers will remember Rooster Cogburn as originally portrayed by John Wayne. That ornery Rooster Cogburn traveled into Indian Territory - towards "McAlester's store," while tracking that villain Tom Cheney. Today, visitors can experience the authentic Wild West atmosphere, stock up on supplies, and create unique memories that can only be had here at the original crossroads.
The Wild West Festival always includes fun events and performances. The day begins at 9 a.m. with the Little Buckaroos Skittles Dash for kids twelve and under and then at 10 a.m. with the Wild Color Stampede, a 5K run for all runner, walkers, rollers over the age of twelve, where participants are showered in glorious color along the route. Get set for gunslinger fights, chuckwagons, live bluegrass music, a pie contest, lumber jack shows, log-rolling programs, chainsaw art, Native American dancing, powwows, storytelling, arts and crafts, and a special appearance by "The Duke," who will be performing gun tricks. Kids will enjoy carnival food, face painting and jumping castles. This festival will also include live music, dancing in the streets, vendor booths, antique shopping and hayrides to the Tannehill Museum where the history of Old Town and the Oklahoma State Peniteniary come ALIVE! Come spend the weekend and visit our many other wonderful attractions and restaurants in historic McAlester, Oklahoma.
