Learn about Alaska's WWII flyers, early bush pilots, and modern "flightseeing" guides. Ongoing restoration projects salvage and preserve vintage aircraft. The museum is located at the largest seaplane facility in the world, on the south shore of Lake Hood. Photo exhibits, scale models, restored planes, and movies screened in a 25-seat theater form a multi-media exploration of the topic.

Over 900 species of perennials and 150 native plants grow amid birch and spruce woodlands. A mile-long nature walk leads to the banks of Campbell Creek where, during the summer spawn, you can watch Chinook salmon run. An alpine rock garden, an herb garden, and a wildflower walk are other park features. Guided tours are available, and visitors are encouraged to bring a picnic lunch.

This is a great spot to familiarize yourself with the animals you are likely to see on your further travels through the state. Caribou, moose, and Dall sheep placidly graze in a viewing area. There is a 25-acre bear habitat that supports black bears, glacier bears, and brown bears (grizzlies). Alaska's only elephant resides at the Alaska Zoo, with a Siberian tiger and a few camels for company. The zoo has a large gift shop with educational toys and souvenirs, and a snack bar serves tasty lunches and snacks.

From June to October more ambitious hikers can walk to the Harding Icefield, where mountain goats, moose, and marmots are frequently seen. Visitors should first stop at the Kenai Fjords National Park visitor center, located in the small boat harbor in Seward.
