Velvet Groove Band

We are Velvet Groove, based in Bloomington, Illinois. We have, individually or collectively, played at venues all over the state and, in Jim Bland’s case, nationally. We perform primarily 50’s-early 70’s material, in addition to Country, Blues & R&B.

Among the places we’ve performed: Tweaker’s in Stanford, IL; Bloomington VFW Club in Bloomington IL; Bloomington IL Moose Club; Coconut Louie’s & Copper Top Lounge, both in Bloomington; CD’s Crystal Palace in Pontiac, IL. Also, we opened the 2009 Leroy Fall Festival and were one of the featured performers of Culture Fest 2009 in Miller Park, Bloomington, IL.

Our usual fee is $350 - $2000 for a 4 hr. performance. This depends on distance traveled outside Bloomington/Normal, and is of course negotiable. We are willing to travel up to 200 miles, depending on price/fee negotiated

Our membership:
Jim Bland: Lead Guitar (Formerly of The Spectors)
Brad Reside: Rhythm Guitar/Bass (Formerly of White Buffalo )
Todd Asper: Drums (Mighty Groove Trio)
Curt Kessler: Vocals/Bass Guitar (formerly of Black Velvet & Straight Talk)

“Velvet Grove was such a refreshing show. Unlike most of our bands geared for the young ones, Velvet Groove was awesome for our old folk too. But yes, we had many young ones out jammin’ to their music. Don’t hesitate to book Velvet Groove. Looking forward to booking you again!”
