by Del Puckett
(Rio Rancho, NM )
Del Puckett is a different kind of guitarist. He plays very aggressively and often uses various percussive and tapping techniques. He is constantly pushing the envelope of what is acceptable. Del's playing typically contains a certain "sense of humor" as he doesn't take himself very seriously and believes that playing guitar should be..."Fun!"
Born and raised in the high mountain desert of Albuquerque NM, Del Puckett's musical horizon spans from Smooth and Silky Jazz to Extreme and Flat-Picking. Del enjoys a wide range of musical genres and possesses a versatile command of his instrument. Flavors of Blues, Modern Rock, Classical and Celtic Finger-style can be found in many of Del Puckett's original compositions.
Del operates out of his home recording studio located in Rio Rancho, NM. His most recent CD "Love Never Fails" features some very well crafted instrumental arrangements infused with catchy melodies and infectious grooves.
In 2001, Del helped co-found Albuquerque's own "Soular". Soular's sound was a unique blend of British Atmospheric Rock and Modern Pop. During his time with Soular, Del recorded several CD's including "Time and Space", which sold over 10,000 copies. Time and Space received airplay on over 130 stations around the country and charted on the CMJ Radio 200 for more than two months.
In 2000, one of Del's Jazz instrumentals "IPO" - (Initial Public Offering) charted 1 on MP3.com's Jazz chart.
Del is also an inspirational teacher of guitar and music theory. He teaches all levels, holds both group and private lessons and regularly facilitates local area guitar workshops.
Currently, Del plays at the Calvary Chapel in Albuquerque, NM. These worship services are broadcast both live over the internet and over 100's of radio stations worldwide. Del also plays for weddings, private parties, and has even opened for several national acts.
REVIEWS:
"Love Never Fails is quite simply a beautiful song. Puckett's acoustic tones are lovely, his phrasing is impassioned yet restrained, and nothing he does compromises the sanctity of the melody. This is a fabulous lesson on what to do when a killer song drops into your hands, you just thank your lucky stars and stay out of its way." Michael Molenda - Editor in Chief of GUITAR PLAYER magazine
